Our Role in the Dental Implant Process

Here at our practice, Dr. Houston and Dr. Robison have received specialized training to be able to place the abutment and the crown portion of your dental implant. To get a dental implant, we will first refer you to a local oral surgeon or prosthodontist that we know and trust to place your implant. Once the implant has been placed, then you can turn to our team to complete your restoration.

The implant will need anywhere from three to six months to naturally fuse with the jawbone after surgery. Once this naturally occurring fusion is complete, then our team will place the abutment on top of the implant. The abutment simply connects with the implant, which sits under the gums within the jawbone, with the false tooth (most typically a dental crown). Once the abutment has been placed we will need to wait a few weeks for the gums around the implant to fully heal before we cement the crown into place.

The crowns that we offer at our practice are always custom-fitted to your smile and are made from the highest-quality porcelain to ensure that it looks just like the rest of your smile. Once the crown has been cemented over the abutment, you won’t be able to tell the difference between your implant and the rest of your natural smile.

You will also turn to us every six months for checkups and cleanings. During these checkups, we will also check the health and function of the implant to make sure that everything looks and feels okay. If your crown ever cracks or falls out, we are the first dentists you’ll turn to.
